If you are making a reservation via the online availability reservation system, the following fares are available -
1. Fare Information (Effective 26 Sep 07) -
a. 'Adult', 'Standard' or 'Flexi' Fare -
This fare is available to all passengers whether you are a New Zealand resident or if you reside outside New Zealand.
b. 'Web' or 'Saver' Fare -
This is an 'Advance' purchase fare and is subject to availability until a reservation has been confirmed.
c. Backpackpacker/YHA/VIP/NOMAD Fare -
Available to any person over 15years and is subject to availability until a reservation has been confirmed.
YHA, VIP or Nomad identification card may be required
d. Senior Fare -
This fare for people over 60 years old and is available whether you are a New Zealand resident or if you reside outside New Zealand.
e. Student Fare -
Available to any person over the age of 15 years and is subject to availability until a reservation has been confirmed.
Identification may be required.
f. Child Fares
A child is 2-15yrs and is 60% off the 'Standard/Flexi' adult fare except for The Overlander train service where there is no 'Child' fare.
An Infant under 2yrs not occupying a seat travels free on all train services.
g. Day Excursion Fares -
This is an 'Advance' purchase fare with a 25% discount of the 'Standard' fare and is subject to availability until a reservation has been confirmed.
h. 'Winter' Fares -
This is an 'Advance' purchase fare with up to 55% discount of the 'Standard' fare and is subject to availability until a reservation has been confirmed.
Available from 01 May to 30 September only.
2. Group Fares -
Group fares available to any group travel from within New Zealand or from overseas.
3. Day Excursion Fares -
* Return fare conditions and booking conditions apply
* Both legs of the return journey must be booked together and ticketed together on a single booking prior to departing on the first leg.
4. Fare Rules -
* All fares are subject to availability
* All fares are transferable to another travel date (Except 'Winter' and 'Saver' fares) up to 15 days prior to the day of travel. One free date change is permitted up to 3 days prior to day of travel. A NZ$20.00 change fee will apply for any further date changes.

Date changes for 'Web' or 'Saver' fares are not permitted once 'E-Ticket' or 'Travel Voucher' has been issued.
* All fares are non-refundable and non-transferable 48 hours prior to travel date or after check in has been completed.
* All fares, services and facilities are subject to change without notice.
* All return fares are non-refundable after the time of check in of the first leg.
* 'Winter' fares are can not can not be changed to another travel date and/or direction of travel and can not be transfered to another person/s or group.
All fares are subject to availability until a reservations has been confirmed and paid for.
All fares are based one way 'Point to Point' travel except for 'Day Excursion' fares which are 'Return' fares

Reservations -
All passengers travelling on any Tranz Scenic rail service must have a reservation.
Any reservation submitted unless less than 15 Days prior to travel date - payment must by a Visa/Mastercard credit/checking/Debit card (Not Visa Electron Card), Diners Club Credit Card, American Express Credit Card, Cheque (New Zealand only) or Internet Banking (New Zealand only).
All prices quoted are in New Zealand dollars and include Goods and Service tax. All fares are subject to availability and may be changed without notice.
Overseas Travel Agents, if your Client is booked on 'Adult' and 'Child' Fare/s Travel Agent's commission is paid.

Payment -
When you make a reservation, a payment due date will be advised on your email confirmation. If payment has not been advised by that date your reservation will be cancelled.
All payments are to be by a credit/debit/checking card - Visa (Not Visa Electron Card), Mastercard, Diners Club and Amercian Express nad will be processed by IPay NewZealand/IPay NZ Ltd
Payment can be by either cheque or Internet Banking, as long as the bank is located in New Zealand and has inter-bank transaction facility.
Payment by Internet banking must be paid not less than 36 hours prior to travel date.
If payment is by Internet Banking, please allow over night processing.
For New Zealand residents only - Payment can be also by a cheque drawn on a New Zealand Bank or by Internet Banking.
If payment is by a credit card and if you dispute your credit card charge as - 'Transaction not authorised by the cardholder' and if it is found that you had been checked in and travel on the service you had made a reservation for, there will be a NZ$25.00 fee to process your credit card dispute.

Change/Refund/Cancellation Conditions (With Effect from 26 Sep 07) -
All refund requests must be made within 30 days of the scheduled day of departure. Cancellations are subject to the following refund conditions -
a. Adult, Standard or Flexi Fare -
* Date change up to 3 days prior to departure date is okay and is subject to seat availability for the new travel date
* Change of travel direction is okay up 15 days prior to travel date. A NZ$25.00 Change Fee will apply if direction of travel is changed.
* Refunds will be given if cancellation is advised -
- Up to 15 days prior to travel date - Full Refund#
- 14-7 days prior to travel date - 25% Cancellation#
- 7-2 days prior to travel date - 50% Cancellation#
- 2-0 days prior to travel date - 100% Cancellation#
# A 10-20% Refund Transaction Fee will apply where as payment was made electronically, by cheque or Internet Banking.
b. 'Web' or 'Saver' Fare -
* No changes to travel date or direction of travel can be made once reservation has been confirmed.
* Refunds will be given if cancellation is advised -
- Up to 2 days prior to travel date - 50% Cancellation#
- 2-0 days prior to travel date - 100% Cancellation#
# A 10% Refund Transaction Fee will apply where as payment was made electronically, by cheque or Internet Banking.
c. YHA/VIP/NOMAD/Backpackers Fare -
* Date change up to 3 days prior to departure date is okay and is subject to seat availability for the new travel date
* Change of travel direction is okay up 15 days prior to travel date. A NZ$25.00 Change Fee will apply if direction of travel is changed.
* Refunds will be given if cancellation is advised -
- Up to 15 days prior to travel date - Full Refund#
- 14-7 days prior to travel date - 25% Cancellation#
- 7-2 days prior to travel date - 50% Cancellation#
- 2-0 days prior to travel date - 100% Cancellation#
* A 10% Refund Transaction Fee will apply where as payment was made electronically, by cheque or Internet Banking.
d. Senior Citizen Fare -
* Senior fare is for people 60 years and over
* Date change up to 3 days prior to departure date is okay and is subject to seat availability for the new travel date
* Change of travel direction is okay up 15 days prior to travel date. A NZ$25.00 Change Fee will apply if direction of travel is changed.
* Refunds will be given if cancellation is advised -
- Up to 15 days prior to travel date - Full Refund#
- 14-7 days prior to travel date - 25% Cancellation#
- 7-2 days prior to travel date - 50% Cancellation#
- 2-0 days prior to travel date - 100% Cancellation#

e . Day Excursion Fares -
* No refund if cancelled after first service has been traveled
* Date change up to 3 days prior to departure date is okay and is subject to seat availability for the new travel date except if booked as a 'Web/Saver' fare.
* Refunds will be given if cancellation is advised -
- Up to 15 days prior to travel date - Full Refund#
- 14-7 days prior to travel date - 25% Cancellation#
- 7-2 days prior to travel date - 50% Cancellation#
- 2-0 days prior to travel date - 100% Cancellation#

g. Through (Train/Ferry) fares -
* No refund if cancelled after first travel sector has commenced
* Date change up to 3 days prior to departure date is okay and is subject to seat availability for the new travel date
* Change of travel direction is okay up 15 days prior to travel date. A NZ$25.00 Change Fee will apply if direction of travel is changed except if booked as a 'Web/Saver' fare
* Refunds will be given if cancellation is advised -
- Up to 15 days prior to travel date - Full Refund#
- 14-7 days prior to travel date - 25% Cancellation#
- 7-2 days prior to travel date - 50%Cancellation#
- 2-0 days prior to travel date - 100% Cancellation#

h. 'Winter' Fare -
* Non-Refundable and Non-Changeable once 'E-Ticket/Itinerary' or /Travel Voucher' has been issued.
If you are traveling on any Tranz Scenic rail service and you live outside New Zealand, it is strongly recommend that you have the necessary travel insurance to cover any disruption or cancellation of your travel plans whilst in New Zealand.
All reservations and the issuance of a 'Travel Voucher' to travel on any long distance passenger train service is subject to the terms of the Operator's Conditions of Carriage.
The Operator of the long distance passenger train services is not responsible or liable for any loss, damage or expense incurred by passengers as a result of the failure of the service to operate or depart or arrive at the scheduled time or location.
Any dispute/s concerning a reservation comes under New Zealand law and is to be heard in a New Zealand Court of Law.
